Setup

NY SLA Export: Category Attribute Defaults
Overview
When generating NY SLA Price Posting exports, the system automatically uses category attribute defaults for products that don't have individual attribute values set. This eliminates the need to manually populate every product with NY SLA-required fields like Beverage Type.How Category Defaults Work for NY SLA
The NY SLA export checks for attribute values in this order:- Product-level value - If the product has a specific value set, it's used
- Direct category default - If the product's category has a default value, it's used
- Parent category default - The system walks up the category tree until it finds a default
- Skipped - If no value is found anywhere, the product is excluded from the export
Setting Up NY SLA Defaults
Step 1: Add NY SLA Attributes to Your Category
Use the bulk attribute creation to add all NY SLA attributes to your wine or spirits category:- Navigate to your root wine category (e.g., "Red Wines" or "Wines")
- Add the NY SLA attribute set
Step 2: Set Default Values on the Category
Edit each NY SLA attribute on the category and set appropriate default values:| Attribute | Recommended Default | Description |

Step 3: Run the Export
When you run the NY SLA export:- Products with their own values use those values
- Products without values automatically inherit from the category defaults
- Only products missing the required
nysla_bev_type
(with no category default available) are skipped
Example Setup
Category Structure:
- All products under "Red Wines" automatically export with beverage type "TR"
- All products under "White Wines" automatically export with beverage type "TW"
- All products under "Sparkling Wines" automatically export with beverage type "S"
- No manual data entry required on individual products
Overriding Defaults
If a specific product needs a different value than the category default:- Open the product
- Set the attribute value directly on the product
- The product's value will be used instead of the category default
Troubleshooting
Products are being skipped in the export:- Check the export response for the skip reason
- Most common: "Missing required attribute: nysla_bev_type"
- Solution: Set a
nysla_bev_type
default on the product's category or a parent category
- Verify which category the product belongs to
- Check if the product has an individual value overriding the category default
- Verify the category's default value is set correctly
Tips for Large Catalogs
- Set defaults at the highest level possible - If all wines in "Red Wines" and its subcategories are Table Red, set the default on "Red Wines" once rather than on each subcategory
- Use subcategory overrides when needed - If you have a "Dessert Reds" subcategory under "Red Wines" that should use "DP" (Dessert/Port), set a different default on that subcategory
- Review before export - Use the skipped items report to identify any products missing required data before submitting to NY SLA
How the Export Works
Pricing Logic
The export automatically calculates bottle and case prices based on how you sell the item:Sold by Bottle (EACH, BOTTLE, ML, L, CAN):- Your price = bottle price
- Case price = bottle price × pack quantity
- Your price = case price
- Bottle price = case price ÷ pack quantity
Quantity Discounts
If you have price bands configured, they automatically convert to NY SLA discount tiers:| Your Price Band | NY SLA Export |

What Gets Exported
The export generates a 100-column CSV file containing:- Header info (post type, month, year, license)
- Product details (brand name, beverage type, TTB ID)
- Size info (bottle size, unit, bottles per case)
- Wine details (vintage, alcohol code, proof)
- Pricing (bottle price, case price)
- Up to 10 quantity discount tiers
Generating an Export
- Go to Catalogs → Alcohol Industry → NY SLA Price Posting Export
- Select the Price Group to use for pricing
- Enter the Posting Month and Year
- Click Generate Export
- Download the CSV file
- Upload to the NY SLA Price Postings website
Skipped Items
Items will be skipped if:- Missing the required Beverage Type attribute
- No pricing set for the selected price group
Troubleshooting
